Well this Sunday morning has been far more productive than I had thought It would be. While flicking through the copious amount of trash on Tv this morning I came upon a little Gem.
James May's Big Ideas, takes the past Top Gear Presenter on a Journey to Discover smarter, brighter and bolder ways of powering the planet for future generations.
NASA is offering a 2 million grand prize for anyone who can come up with a way of getting a solar power station into the sky. The big problem is that a Shuttle cant carry that much equipment to transport a whole power plant into the sky.
So what do inventors come up with? A huge elevator that will travel up and down a 20,000 miles stretch into the sky which sounds like something Willy Wonka would have come up with but the plan seems to be working and the team are well on their way to achieving their goal.
James May also visits Alchemists in New Mexico, who plan to conjure up petrol out of thin air (literally).
Some of the weird and wonderful inventions on the show seem to come straight out of fiction. But maybe thats where we should start looking for ideas, maybe we should try looking into fiction, imagination and fantasy to solve the most difficult problems we are presented with.
